If you’re longing for the open road, RV towing could be your ticket! With all the comforts of home at a fraction of the cost (and stress!) compared with long-term rentals, it’s an attractive option. Let’s weigh up some pros and cons so that you can decide whether taking this journey is worth investing in – buckle up folks, here we go!

    Advantages RV Towing

Let’s not throw a wet blanket over your dream of having an RV just yet! Towed RVs have some great benefits, like the freedom to move around wherever you please. Plus there are plenty other pros that make them such attractive options for road trippers and adventurers alike.

When you’re out camping, nothing compares to the convenience of an RV. Unhitch and stabilize one of those towed beauties to unlock the freedom that comes with having your own set of wheels! Motor homes offer a great sense of mobility, yet can be quite inconvenient. It’s like putting the cart before the horse – you need to tow an extra vehicle for short errands.

Traveling by trailer has its advantages – besides all the great memories of course! Even with extra weight in tow, a truck can still get much better mileage than motor homes. Those big ol’ Class A Motorhome may look like luxury on wheels, but the trade-off for all that space and style is a pretty hefty fuel bill. New models can get 10 miles to the gallon – not exactly wallet-friendly – while aging coaches will have you down closer to 5!

If your travel trailer or fifth wheel needs some TLC, it’s a simple fix: drop it off at the dealership and you’re good to go. But a motor home? Spoiler alert – things just got complicated! Not only is your RV out of commission but so is your coach vehicle. So now you wait around for mechanic magic and hope they work fast; otherwise, guess it’s time to book that hotel room walking distance from the shop!

When it comes to cost, towed RVs are a huge bargain compared to motor homes. It’s like their engine-driven cousins come with an extra bill for the mechanic – all those moving parts can really add up! But if you choose either a travel trailer or fifth wheel, you won’t experience sticker shock at checkout time.

Forget motor homes – if you’ve got a large family, you’ll have more bang for your buck with towed RVs! That’s because the engine isn’t taking up space in these vehicles, giving families plenty of room to stretch out and chill. So instead of spending oodles on extra square footage that doesn’t really exist in motorhomes anyway, save some dough by going towable – it will make all the difference at bedtime or movie night.

    Disadvantages of RV Towing

Sure, there are plenty of perks to owning a fifth wheel or travel trailer, but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Before you make the plunge into towed RV life, know that there can be some bumps in the road too!

    Separation Between Vehicle & Trailer

RV towing can be a bit tricky, since your RV and the vehicle pulling it are only connected by a hitch. For example, an attempted burglary on an RV would mean all you’d have to do is drive off – unlike with houses or fixed RVs! So yeah, having that extra separation from your trailer could make things more complicated if something bad’s going down. Motor homes definitely have one up in this area over traditional towed rigs.

When it comes time to answer nature’s call, it becomes crystal clear why motorhomes are a better option than towable RVs. Traveling in an RV means you don’t need to put your journey on hold – all that stands between you and the toilets is, well…nothing! But there’ll be no sneaking off into the sunset if you have a towed trailer; without unhooking from their coach vehicle first, passengers will find themselves having resort (at times literally) to some daring window-wiggling maneuvers instead of just unlocking the door! Let’s not even consider how unsafe this would be: heed our advice and keep away from any crazy bathroom break escapades for everyone’s sake.

    Climate Control

Traveling with a towed RV can be unpredictable, leaving you subject to the fluctuations of external temperatures. When arriving at your destination after hours on the road, don’t be surprised if that cozy vacation spot is anything but! With climate control features shut off during travel and unfortunately no way around it until hooked up to power again, plan ahead for some quality time in the coach vehicle before diving into creature comforts.
