Before you hit the road with your new trailer in tow, it’s important to make sure you’ve got the right hitch for the job. The size and weight of your trailer will determine the class of hitch you need.

Trailers come in all shapes and sizes, and so do trailer hitches. That’s why it’s important to know which hitch class is right for your trailer.

    Class 1 Hitches

Class 1 hitches are the smallest and lightest weight hitches on the market. They’re designed for small trailers, like pop-up campers and utility trailers.

These hitches are equipped with a 1-1/4″ x 1-1/4″ receiver tube opening, which is just the right size for attaching a trailer ball. The maximum weight limit of Class 1 Hitches are around 2000 lbs.

    Class 2 Hitches

Class 2 hitches are designed for mid-sized trailers, such as small boat trailers and campers. They’re a bit sturdier than Class 1 hitches, with a weight capacity of around 3500 lbs.

Class 2 hitches have a receiver tube opening of 1-1/4″ x 2″. This is just the right size for attaching a trailer ball or other hitch-mounted accessory, like a bike rack.

    Class 3 Hitches

Class 3 hitches are the stoutest hitches on the market, designed for heavy-duty towing applications. These hitches can tow up to 8000 lbs., making them perfect for hauling large trailers like RVs and horse trailers.

Class 3 hitches have a receiver tube opening of 2″ x 2″. This size is ideal for towing heavy trailers and attaching hitch-mounted accessories.

    Class 4 Hitches

Class 4 hitches are the largest and most heavy-duty hitches available. They’re designed for commercial towing applications, such as towing large RVs and horse trailers.

Class 4 hitches have a receiver tube opening of 2″ x 2″. This size is ideal for towing heavy trailers and attaching hitch-mounted accessories. These hitches can tow up to 10000 lbs.

    Class 5 Hitch

If you’ve ever needed to tow a large trailer, you know that not just any old hitch will do. You need a hitch that can handle the weight and stress of towing, and that’s where Class 5 hitches come in. Class 5 hitches are the strongest and most durable hitches on the market, with weight ratings of up to 20,000 lbs. GTW. They’re typically used on full-size pickups and commercial trucks, but they can be used on other vehicles as well. If you’re looking for a hitch that can handle whatever you throw at it, a Class 5 hitch is the way to go.
